This month, I’m taking the plunge.
Going in head first.
Taking that big ol’ leap of faith.
You are probably confused.
“The plunge? Where?”
Or better still: “Into what?”
I’ve got a few big projects that need some finishing touches.
(You can even help with them, if you want.)
But I’ll warn you: they’re big.
So big, in fact, that it’s time to press the pause button on this blog for a while.
Yup. Time for a break! Time to go away so I can come back later!
I’ve been posting weekly to this blog for two years. What could possibly be happening that would be big enough to make me stop for a while?
Let me clue you in.
You may already know that I set up my counseling practice in south Austin a few months ago, after practicing for a few years in West Lake Hills.
In fact, I’m one of only a handful of therapists who offer therapy in south Austin—in 78748 and the surrounding area.
But for the past few months, I’ve been working in a temporary space, waiting for the permanent office to open up.
Well, the new, permanent office space is finally available at the end of May.
What does that mean?
It means that I’m spending a lot of time showing the office to other therapists looking to make south Austin home for their practice.
It means I’m meeting with contractors and taking bids to soundproof and upgrade the offices.
It means that I’m fretting over the furniture will go in the lobby.
And I’m fitting this in between the appointments I already have! The space will be available for use July 1st, so I have a lot to do between now and then.
How you can help: Do you know a counselor or helping professional looking for office space in south Austin? Send them my way! I’d be happy to show them around.
Extra credit: Tell me what matters to you in a lobby. What makes ‘em comfortable, and what makes them wretched? Interior design was never my strong suit, and I need all the help I can get.
Last month, I received permission from the board to begin offering supervision services to LPC interns.
This means that I can supervise therapists-in-training who are completing the 3000 hour internship that is required before they can practice independently in Texas.
So I’ve spent a lot of time getting the word out about those services, doing interviews, and setting up all the infrastructure that will support my interns in their practice.
It’s a lot of work!
And this means that I’ll be partnering with therapists who can offer therapy on a sliding scale, for about half-to-a-third of the cost of what I charge per session.
How you can help: Do you know someone who is looking for therapy in south Austin on a budget?
I’ll be partnering with therapists under my supervision who will be offering therapy at affordable rates. I am also familiar with the counselors outside of my practice working off of William Cannon, Slaughter Lane, and even further south, near Manchaca, Buda, New Braunfels, and San Marcos. I’d be glad to offer some referrals—just send me an email.
Extra credit: Do you know of any LPC interns or counseling students in Austin who are looking for a supervisor? I’m still offering free interviews to prospective supervisees.
And don’t forget to tell those counselors-in-training that I offer workshops and consultations, too.
If you enjoy reading this blog, it might be a good opportunity to put it in your feed. That’ll clue you in when I’m back to posting regularly here. Or you might sign up for the monthly newsletter, if you haven’t already. It’s free, and I’ll be sure to update you on when the blog is live again.
For now, I hope you’ll wish me the best of luck.
After all, I have no idea how this will all turn out.
No matter how you slice it, it’s a big leap of faith!
Talk with you soon—
Ann
